Sociedad Argentina de Estudios Medievales - Buenos Aires, 1-3 September 2014

The annual meeting of SAEMED took place, as usual, in the Instituto Multidisciplinario de Historia y Ciencias Humanas of the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientificas y Tecnicas and brought together 30-50 scholars from across Argentina, and a handful from Chile and Brazil. In future, the newly-elected committee agreed to hold the SAEMED meeting biennially. A few plenary sessions were interspersed by 2-3 parallel sessions with younger and established scholars. Coverage included research on Spanish and Italian medieval studies, but also significant pockets of research excellence in late antique and Byzantine studies, Nordic studies and also east-central Europe. CARMEN's Director, Simon Forde, was hosted by the CNICT and offered an extremely well attended session on CARMEN and how it offered collaborative and publishing opportunities for medievalists in Latin America. The discussion was lively, very positive, and led to an invitation to repeat the same operation at the Brazilian equivalent in summer 2015.
