Half-Yearly Meeting in Amsterdam of CARMEN's Executive Committee, 10 February 2012

CARMEN’s Executive Committee met near the Noorderkerk in Amsterdam on 10 February 2012, amid arctic weather and myriad skaters on the canals. The meeting finalised plans for the organisation of and programme for the 7th CARMEN Annual Meeting which will take place in Budapest on 7-8 September 2012 (with participants arriving on the Thursday evening and departing on the Sunday morning). The meeting also agreed the venues for 2013 and 2014.

The meeting discussed enhanced co-operation with partners in East Asia, Latin America, and Russia, and further development of CARMEN’s global Forum for National Associations. The meeting agreed the representation of Executive Committee members at various national meetings in the next year: the Nordic Centre for Medieval Studies meeting in Bergen (tba), CARA in Saskatoon (October), the Dutch-Flemish Mediëvistendag (October), ANZAMEMS in Melbourne (February 2013), and the Mediävistenverband in Heidelberg (March). And it planned its representation at the international conferences in Kalamazoo (May), Lleida (June) and Leeds (July).

It also focused on research funding for international collaborative projects through HERA-Net, the ERC and COST, and training of postgraduate medievalists through the Marie Curie programme. It committed itself to playing an active part in EASH, the new lobbying platform for the humanities and social sciences within the EU. Equally, steps were taken to enhance the global function of CARMEN’s work, including the work on a distance-learning-based Graduate School for Medieval Studies.
